The majority of people with COVID-19 have uncomplicated or mild illness (81%), with symptoms such as fever, fatigue, cough (with or without phlegm production), appetite/weight loss, malaise, muscle pain, sore throat, shortness of breath, nasal congestion, or headache. Rarely, patients may also present with diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. Loss of taste and smell has also been reported early in the infection.
Swab Test- £225 (including consultation)
-for those who are CURRENTLY symptomatic with signs of possible COVID infection, preferably within day 1 to day 5 of symptoms.
The test is a combined throat and nasal swab and can be done as a home test with postage paid reply kit OR handed back to Essex Private Doctors with prior arrangement.
Results within 1-2 days of specimen arrival at the London Laboratory
Antibody Blood Test- £130 (including consultation)
-for those that feel that they have PREVIOUSLY been infected with the COVID virus. Most patients that have had the disease have been found to produce the IgG antibody.
Testing should be done FOURTEEN DAYS OR MORE following exposure or onset of symptoms.
NB: it is not yet fully known if an individual with a positive result showing presence of IgG levels following being infected with COVID-19 will be protected, either fully or partially from future infection, or for how long the protective immunity may last. Therefore all guidelines regarding social distancing and personal protection should still be adhered to even if antibody tests are positive suggesting that one has had the infection previously.
