We have a team of experienced doctors and surgery administrators meeting the highest possible standards of medical care.
The practice is registered and regulated by the Care Quality Commission, the independent regulator of health and social care in England. This means our range of patient services, including GP appointments & prescriptions, blood tests & minor surgery, health screening, contraception, vaccinations and aesthetics is regularly inspected to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety.
We follow General Medical Council (GMC) guidance on matters relating to medical confidentiality, are members of The Independent Doctors Federation and ensure our team stays at the forefront of medical advances and national guidelines. This is achieved through a comprehensive programme of in-depth in-house training, established relationships with local hospital specialists and regular attendance of medical profession courses.
Dr Athreya has a particular interest in dermatology, minor surgery and advanced aesthetic procedures, from wrinkle reducing injections and facial fillers to skin peels, threadlifts and microneedling. He completed the Diploma in Dermatology at Cardiff University in 2014, passing with distinction. He also achieved the Professional BTEC Award for Laser and Aesthetic Therapies in 2015. Dr Athreya has a keen interest in age management and preventative medicine.
Dr Athreya is passionate believer in the traditional family doctor relationship, working closely and having personal knowledge of patients and their families and being available and approachable at times of need.
Dr Alice Scott graduated from University College London. Following graduation, she has studied extensively gaining the Diplomas of Child Health, and Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare. In recognition of her successful performance in the Membership exams for the Royal College of General Practitioners she was awarded the Mid-Wessex Excellence Award. She holds the Advanced Certificate of Menopause Care and is recognised as a Menopause Specialist by the British Menopause Society.
Dr Scott offers all aspects of care in General Practice and health screening and also leads a Menopause Clinic at Essex Private Doctors. She provides a range of contraceptive options including contraceptive injections; the fitting and removal of contraceptive implants; and coil removal. In addition, she treats hyperhidrosis and gives wrinkle reducing injections.
Dr Scott is a conscientious and thorough practitioner who maintains her clinical competencies by keeping abreast of contemporary medical advances. She believes in personalised medical care and her approachable style will put you at ease to discuss your health.

Our clinic is undergoing a very exciting transformation and I am very pleased that I am now able to share with you some wonderful news.
As you may well know, this Private GP service initially began as The Regency Clinic in 2004, under the guidance of my colleague Dr Jonathan Richardson, and was based in Regency House in Brentwood. In 2012, the clinic moved to our current location in Hutton Road, Shenfield, and I had the privilege of taking over as Clinical Director in 2014.
Over the years, our services to our patients have grown, particularly since I was joined by Dr Alice Scott in 2016. In 2022 Dr Eleanor Beddoe also became part of our regular team. Over recent years, Surgery hours and services have expanded, we have regularly run two simultaneous clinics to look after our patients, and it has been clear that we have outgrown our current location.
I am therefore very pleased that I can now announce the next stage in our evolution!
On 18th June 2023, Dr Alice Scott will be taking over as Owner and Clinical Director as Essex Private Doctors Ltd., and we will be moving to our very own purpose-designed premises in 57 Crown Street, Brentwood.
Dr Scott has put in many months of hard work and planning behind the scenes, and I am delighted that she has been approved by the CQC as new Manager of the Clinic as Essex Private Doctors Ltd.
The new location has four consultation rooms and a dedicated minor surgery suite. Our rooms are on the ground and first floor, and our building is wheelchair accessible. There is good availability of car parking in the Coptfold Road multistorey car park directly opposite, or the Chatham Way surface level car park a couple of minutes’ walk away. Dedicated blue badge parking is available onsite.
I will continue to work my normal hours at Essex Private Doctors Ltd, as will Dr Scott and Dr Beddoe. We will also have more practitioners joining us to improve patient choice and appointment availability, Dr Henry Grundy-Wheeler is a very experienced GP who will be joining us at the end of June.
Our duty of care to you will remain unchanged and our core values of providing excellent medical care and availability will remain. We know that this move will only enhance convenience and patient experience, and we will now be able to offer more services to our patients.
Our new website will be launched on 18th June giving further information and full details of our new clinic.
I would like to take this opportunity as outgoing manager to thank all our patients for their trust and loyalty over the years, especially during the challenging times of Covid. Under the expert guidance of Dr Scott, I know that we will be offering a Private GP service that is second to none and I hope that we can count on your continuing support.
